Notes about Thomas Johnson

Thomas represented Louisa County in the House of Burgess from 1758 until 1765 and then again from 1769 until 1776. During his second term in the Burgess, he was a member of the Committee of Safety from 1774 until 1775. He also represented Louisa County in the House of Delegates in 1779. He was a Colonel in the Louisa County Militia. In 1790, Thomas was the Sheriff of Louisa Co., VA. Thomas and his family lived at 'Roundabout Castle, about three miles from Woodbourne. It was named for Roundabout Creek, an arm of the South Anna River. The lands on which it stood comprised some 4,000 acres. It is reported that Thomas and Elizabeth had as many as ten children.
