Notes about Unico Ripperda heer van Boxbergen, Boekelom Hengelo

Unico Ripperda, heer van Boxbergen, Boekelo en Hengelo, geboren in circa 1570. Hij was ritmeester in Statendienst, (1598-1612) drost van Haaksbergen, Diepenheim en Lage, alswel (1612-1623) landdrost van Twente. Unico had een krachtige lichaamsbouw en een helder verstand. In 1605 leidde hij de heldhaftige verovering van een Spaanse schans bij Goor. Hij woonde eerst op het Hof te Boekelo en kocht in 1615 de heerlijkheid en kasteel Hengelo van Frederik van Twickelo. Hij liet deze burcht uitbreiden en woonde er later zelf ook. In 1617 werd hij tijdens een zitting van de Ridderschap van Overijssel door zijn standsgenoot Johan van Twickelo tot Borgbeuningen van overspel beschuldigd. Dit leidde tot zoveel opheffing dat zij de Staten van Overijssel dreigde te scheuren. Bij een schermutseling verwondde zijn zoon Willem, Hendrik van Ittersum tot de Hofstede, die het had voorzien op Unico's drostambt. Uiteindelijk moest prins Maurits in de zaak bemiddelen, waarna Unico terugtrad als drost. Hij f op 22 September 1625 op kasteel Hengelo. Hij was getrouwd en zijn kinderen volgen sub X.
