De van oorsprong adelijke familie Schuyl van Walhorn komt uit het Duits sprekende gedeelte van het Prinsbisdom Luik. Zij bewoonden daar het kasteel "Craypoel". De familie Schuyl van Walhorn vlucht rond 1580 naar Stade-Kehdingen aan de Elbe ten Noord-Westen van Hamburg in Duitsland. Het Kehdinger land is zuiver natuur. Precies het juiste voor individualisten, met een landschappelijke rijkdom, die zijnsgelijken niet kent. Het beeld strekt zich uit van het onberoerde Kehdinger moeras over het dijk- en polderlandschap, het oude Elbe-eiland en kruidzand tot aan het Natureum. In de lente en in de herfst zijn hier honderden zwermen vogels onderweg. Een gebeurtenis, die men niet zou mogen missen. Het oude land [ong. 30km verwijderd] is Duitsland grootste aaneengesloten fruitteeltgebied en bevat meer dan 10 miljoen fruitbomen. In de lente, tijdens de fruitbloei, daalt dit landschap in een zee van roze en witte bloei. Stade [ong. 25 verwijderde km] is een historische overzeese haven en Hanzestad. Willem Schuyl Van Walhorn, Vlaams predikant, vluchtte na val van Antwerpen naar Staden, was Raad en Rentmeester van de domeinen voor de koning van Spanje te Daalhem en Fauquemont [Valkenburg] "dans quelle charge il fut confirmé par serment le 22 novembre 1579".
