Hugh Courtenay, Knt., of Haccombe, Bampton, Goodrington, Stancombe, South Allington, etc., Devon. Knight of the Shire for Devonshire, Sheriff of Devonshire, younger son, was born aft 1358.  He was married for the first time in 1387 to ELIZABETH, widow of Thomas Audley, Knt. She died about 1392.  He was married for the second time by Feb 1393 to ELIZABETH COGAN, widow of Fulk Fitz Warin, of Whittington, co. Salop, and daughter and heiress of William Cogan, Knt., of Bampton, Devon, by Isabel, daughter and co-heiress of Nigel Loring, Knt., of Chalgrove, co. Bedford. ; She was born about 1373.  She d. 29 Oct 1397 s.p.  He was m. for the third time by 1407 to PHILLIPPE L'ARCEDEKNE, daughter and co-heiress of Warin l'Arcedekne (or Archdeacon), Knt., of Haccombe, Devon, Knight of the Shire for Devonshire, by Elizabeth, daughter of John Talbot, Knt., of Richard's Castle, co. Hereford (of MCS & Charlemagne descent).  She was b. about 1386.  They had two daughters.  He was m. for the fourth time, with license dated 16 Oct 1417, to MAUD BEAUMONT, daughter of William Beaumont, Knt., of Heanton Punchardon, Devon, by Isabel (of MCS and Charlemagne descent), daughter of Henry Wilington, Knt., of Gittisham, Devon.  They had two sons and one daughter.  SIR HUGH COURTENAY d. on 5 or 6 Mar 1425, and was buried at Haccombe, with his third wife.  His widow died in 1467.

SIR HUGH COURTENAY of Haccombe, co. Devon , Knight banneret.  Died 5 March 1425.  Inquisitio post mortem 3 Henry VI., No. 30.
He married first Elizabeth, daughter of Sir Miles Cogan and widow of Sir Fulk Fitzwarren [settlement in Madox's "Form. Angli.," p. 403], who died without issue by Sir Hugh Courtenay.
Married secondly Phillipa, daughter of Sir Warren Archdekne of Haccombe.
Married thirdly Matilda, daughter of Sir John BEAUMONT of Sherwill, co. Devon, Knight.  His died 3 July 1467.  Inquisitio post mortem 7 Edward IV., No. 41.  Her will dated 10 January 1466-7; proved P.C.C. (Godyn, 30.)

Emelyn DAWNAY gave Boconnoc to her son Hugh, later Sir Hugh COURTENAY, who married first Elizabeth COGAN and second Phillipa L' ERCHEDECK. He was killed at the Battle of Tewkesbury in 1471.
