In the 20th year of King Henry III [1236], William Dacre, of Dacre, in Cumberland, served the office of sheriff for that shire with John de Moore, and in the 32nd of the same reign [1248] he was constituted sheriff of Yorkshire and governor of the castles of Scarborough and Pickering. He d. in ten years afterwards, when again sheriff of Cumberland and governor of the castle of Carlisle, and was s. by his son, Ranulph de Dacre.
