Notes about Louise Henriëtte van Oranje

De Duitse Louise Henriëtte van Oranje, Kurfürstin Von Brandenburg, was de echtgenote van de grote keurvorst Friedrich Wilhelm II en de dochter van Stadhouder Frederik Hendrik en Amalia van Solms en kleindochter van Willem de Zwijger en Louise de Coligny. Ze werd geboren in Den Haag in 1627 en stierf in Berlijn op 8 juni 1667. Haar liefde voor Charles de la Trémoille moest ze opgeven; ze werd door haar ouders gedwongen tot een huwelijk met de keurvorst van Brandenburg. Ze schreef hierover: "... 't is te beklagen dat ick om sijn geltz wil en een weinich landt soo ongeluckig moet sijn en verkogt worden ..."
De eerste paar jaren van hun huwelijk woonde het paar in Kleef, maar in 1648 vertrokken ze toch naar het stamland van haar man, Brandenburg. Oranienburg, een stad, 20 km ten noorden van Berlijn, ontstaat rond 1200 uit een aan een voorde in de Havel gebouwde burcht genaamd Bötzow. Deze stad werd in de 30-jarige oorlog verwoest. In 1652 laat de keurvorst voor zijn echtgenote de stad opnieuw aanleggen en doopt de stad om tot Oranienburg. In 1933 kreeg de naam van deze stad een wrange bijsmaak door de bouw van een der eerste concentratiekampen in Duitsland, die onder de naam Saksenhausen over de gehele wereld bekend is geworden.
