Notes about Albertus Wiersinga

Uit 'Nieuw Nederlandsch biografisch woordenboek', dl.3:
WIERSINGA (Albertus), geb. 23 Nov. 1860 te Appingedam en overl. 16 Aug. 1898 te Meppel, waar hij sedert 1882 hoofd eener Chr. geref. school was. Zijn vader, Pieter Albert W., overl. in 1878, was pred. bij de Chr. geref. gem. te Appingedam. Reeds op 22-jar. leeftijd werd hij tot waarnemend hoofd van bovengenoemde school benoemd, doch pas het volgend jaar voor goed geïnstalleerd. Weldra werd hij tevens directeur der Chr. Normaalschool te Meppel. Hij was een wakker strijder voor de ‘school met den bijbel.’ In 1897 werd hij in 't kiesdistr. Hoogezand tot candidaat voor het lidmaatschap der 2de Kamer Stat.-Generaal gesteld, doch niet gekozen.
Wiersinga schreef eenige schoolboekjes voor het onderwijs in de geschiedenis en bezorgde met J. ter Borg herdrukken van de Liefde's Schoolvriend. Een stel leesboeken voor het Chr. onderwijs (1900 e.v.).

Donderdag a.s. zal in het vereenigingsgebouw van Patrimonium te Zwolle de reeds vroeger aangekondigde vergadering worden gehouden tot oprichting van een provincialen bond van afdeelingen van Patrimonium, bij welke gelegenheid de heeren Wiersinga van Meppel en Nieboer van Enschedé referaten zullen houden.

Het behaagde den Heere heden na eene korte, doch hevige ongesteldheid tot zich te nemen mijn innig geliefden Echtgenoot, den WelEdelen Heer Albertus Wiersinga, Hoofd der Gereformeerde School alhier, in den ouderdom van 38 jaar en 9 maanden, mij nalatende zeven nog jeugdige Kinderen, waarvan de jongste hem eenige uren later, na slechts enkele dagen levens, volgde naar het Vaderhuis.
