He distinguished himself in the expeditions against BONI in 1859, in dthe south-eastern region of Borneo and in Aceh (September and October 1876) for which he was awarded a knighthgood (4th class Military Willems Order) in 1878 (Leeuwarder Courant, 23-08-1878; DE PRINS der geïllustreerde bladen, August 1916]. Was injured in the fighjting in Aceh (Leeuwarder Courant, 18-12-1876]. Travelled with his family, early in 1875, on the frigate "Elizabeth" from thye East Indies toi The Netherlands.
Lived at Obrechtstraat 212, The Hague.
