Het landbouwkolonisatieproject Kesilir voor 'Europeanen' werd op 6 juli 1942 gestart aan de oostkust van Java. Ongeveer 3.000 mannen werden er geïnterneerd die bijna al hun onderkomens zelf moesten bouwen en te werk werden gesteld bij de ontginning en openlegging van ongeveer 2.500 hectare moerasland. Omdat het project niet levensvatbaar bleek, werd Kesilir in juni 1943 opgeheven en ontruimd.
