    AMSTERDAM — De Christelijke Gereformeerde kerk aan de Lauriergracht te Amsterdam houdt vanavond haar laatste dienst. De "Ebenhaëzer"-kerk sluit definitief haar deuren, nadat het aantal leden de laatste jaren flink is teruggelopen als gevolg van het verlaten van de stad of het gaan wonen in de buitenwijken of randgemeenten. De Christelijke Gereformeerde kerk kent in Amsterdam momenteel nog drie wijkgemeenten, te weten Noord, Nieuw West en Zuid.

    Het kerkgebouw aan de Lauriergracht werd op 14 november 1900 (dus precies vijfentachtig jaar geleden) officieel in gebruik genomen door ds. H. Janssen, die als eerste Chr. Geref. predikant van Amsterdam de gemeente van 1898 tot 1904 diende. Voor 1900, en wel vanaf 1892, toen 27 personen niet met de vereniging met de dolerenden wilden meegaan, had men voor de samenkomsten verschillende gebouwen moeten huren. De (drie) gebouwen die de vroegere Chr. Geref. Kerk voor 1892 in bezit had, was men door de vereniging immers kwijtgeraakt.
    Omdat de gemeente zich in de jaren negentig van de vorige eeuw langzamerhand uitbreidde, werd de behoefte aan een eigen kerkgebouw steeds groter, hetgeen in 1900 leidde tot de aankoop van het huidige gebouw aan de Lauriergracht.
