Lakenkoopman. Lid raad der 27 Yperen 1578, schepen 1579, hoofdman der burgerij 1582, lid van het college van notabelen 1583.
Week na 1583 uit naar Delft na de inneming van Ieperen door Parma.

Na de inname door de geuzen, door de partisanen van François van Kethulle, van Ieper in 1578 bekleedde Michiel belangrijke posten: schepen in 1579, hoofdman Kleine Ambacht 1580, lid van de Raad van Notabelen 1583. Na de inname van Ieper door Parma in 1584 is Michiel gevlucht naar Norwich, vandaar naar Delft waar hij zich vestigt als koopman. Wapen : in zwart een gouden keper vergezeld van drie zilveren leliën, twee in het schildhoofd en een in den schildvoet. Grafzerk aanwezig in het koor van de Nieuwe Kerk te Delft. Hier leyt begraven Michiel Baelde schepen der stadt Ipere, den 30 December anno 1630 en sijne huysvrouwe Isabelle Bollongies den 1 December 1634 in den Heere ontslapen.
