In 1734 kwam Derk naar de Nieuwe Hattemse molen en betaalde 450 gld pacht per jaar. Derk is in 1754 lid van de kerkeraad van Vaassen. In 1760 pachtte hij ook de beide Hofse molens. Hij werkte op de molens met behulp van zijn kinderen.
