Uit "Van turfgraver tot visser":
Omstreeks 1755 kwam een zekere Bakker uit Kuinre naar Oosterzee en we weten dat hij in 1756 in De Lemmer trouwde. Hijkan beschouwd worden als één van de pioniers in Lemsterland op het gebied van de turfgraverij. Na hem volgdengeleidelijk steeds meer verveners, waarbij ik het op deze plaats alleen zal hebben over hen, die voor dit verhaal vanbelang zijn, d.w.z. zij die uiteindelijk in De Lemmer terechtkwamen.
De eerste twee Giethoornse families, waarvan leden zich als turfgravers in Oosterzee vestigden, waren Slump en Muurling.
