Gerrit woont in 1748 met zijn ouders en zes broers/zusters in Op Zwol (onder Barsbeek, Ambt Vollenhove). In juli 1773 woont hij in de buurtschap Dwarsgragt, dat ongeveer drie kilometer westelijk van Giethoorn ligt.
Volgens Gaals DTB Giethoorn, internet, krijgt het echtpaar Freerks- Leeuw in Giethoorn twee kinderen, namelijk Jantjen Gerrits, geboren 19 oktober 1773, en Jacob Gerrits, geboren 24 december 1775.
Tussen 1775 en 1779 verhuist Gerrit met zijn gezin van Giethoorn naar Oudehaske, een veenwerkersdorp ten westen van Heerenveen. Volgens Kroes worden er nog vier kinderen geboren in respectievelijk Oudehaske (in 1779), Nijehaske (in 1782 en 1784) en weer in Oudehaske (1786).
