Jakob Glatz geboren in Ottershein in de Pfalz, vertrok als 12 jarige met zijn ouders naar Amerika.
Vanaf 1900 was hij werkzaam als spoorwegmedewerker en timmerman en werd bekend als smoklelaar en illegale drank productie waardoor hij vaak verhuisde.
Het gezin verhuisde vaak: Etna 1893, Henry, Etna 1896, Henry 1908. Na enige jaren rondgetrokken te hebben defintief aar Corry waar hij een boederij begon.
Zijn gedrag was som gewelddadig dronken van zijn wisky, wat vervolging door de politie opleverde.
