Tijdens het blussen van een brand op de dag van de Duitse inval in Nederland is hij zonder enige aanleiding doodgeschoten door een Duitse militair. Overlijdensakte 39/1940 gemeentelijke basisadministratie Venlo, burgerlijke stand Maasbree, afdeling Blerick.
