Mr. Garry Wielenga, age 89, of Orange City, passed away on Thursday, May 3, 2012, at the Heritage House Nursing Home in Orange City.
There will be a memorial service on Tuesday, May 8, at 10:30am, at the First Reformed Church Chapel in Orange City. The Rev. Mark Haverdink will officiate. Interment will be prior to the service at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City.
There will be a prayer service on Tuesday, at 9:30am, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City. Visitation will be after 2:00pm on Sunday, with the family present from 2:00pm to 4:00pm, at the funeral home.
Garry was born on August 15, 1922, at Orange City, the son of Jacob L. and Grace (Kroeze) Wielenga. He was raised on a farm northwest of Orange City and attended a country school.
On September 20, 1951, he married Wilmina Jacoba Mantel at Orange City. They farmed northwest of Orange City until 1990, when they moved into town. He then mowed lawns in the Alton Parks. Wilmina passed away on April 9, 1996, in Sioux City.
In 2003, Garry moved to the Landsmeer Ridge Retirement Community in Orange City, and in 2007 , he transferred to the Heritage House.
He was a member of the First Reformed Church. He enjoyed farming, gardening, and repairing things. He liked anything John Deere.
Survivors include his two daughters and their hubands, Neva and Robert Erickson, of Henderson, Nevada; and Marcia and Larry Van Oort, of Doon; five grandchildren and their spouses, Joshua and Nicole Erickson, Benjamin and Ceila Erickson, Rachel Van Oort, Katherine Van Oort, and David Van Oort; two great-grandchildren; a sister and her husband, Marietta and Henry B. Mulder; and a brother and his wife, Ernest and Jeanette Wielenga, all of Orange City; and two sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Verdoorn and Barbara Mantel.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother and his wife, Louis N. and Josephine Wielenga.

Memorial may be directed to the First Reformed Church.
