Jochem Mandemaker was een reisend koopman .Hij reisde met "het pak" ze
weet niet zeker of "het pak" een koffer met kleding of met andere waar betrof.
Toen mevrouw Bosch een meisje van ongeveer 10 jaar was zag ze in het Oosterveld ,onder Noordwolde,het huis van Jochem Mandemaker afbranden.Er was veel publiek (een brand trekt nu nog vaak veel mensen)Jochem was niet thuis.Hij kwam later naar huis en de toeschouwers zeiden onder elkaar.Kijk wat voor een gezicht hij trekt,want hij heeft de polis in zijn zak. M.a.w het bewijs dat zijn huis tegen brand verzekerd was en de premie was betaald en het is vrijwel zeker dat de brand van huize Mandemaker (door hem zelf ) was aangestoken.

Zoiets gebeurde toen wel vaker of veel vaker.Het betroef vaak oude huizen die op het punt van onverzekerbaar stonden, de verzekering zijden de polis op.en ja dan moest men weleens wat andrs zat er een nieuw huis helemaal niet meer in.

mevrouw Bosch herinert zich dat veel woningen op maandag morgen afbrande .
Ook brande vaak woningen af ookal was ze niet gtroffen door de bliksem tijdens het onweer.
