Harm was Ned.Herv. opgegroeid, terwijl Jinke Buist gereformeerd was (grote kerk en kleine kerk).
Harm Brinks zelf, maar vooral zijn familie, moest niet veel van de gereformeerde kerk hebben. Na
hun huwelijk bleven zij beiden dan ook lid van hun eigen kerk. Jinke Buist dacht er niet over om
Ned.Herv. te worden, maar ook Harm wilde niet gereformeerd worden. Van Harm kwam dit
waarschijnlijk doordat zij na hun trouwen aanvankelijk naast de ouders van Harm Brinks kwamen
wonen. Later, toen zij in Nieuw Weerdinge woonden, ging Harm wel naar de gereformeerde kerk, die
in Ter Apel (west) stond. Na het overlijden van zoon Jan liet hij zich officieel overschrijven.
