Notes about Jan Willem Veldhuizen

Jan Willem werd geboren op 10 april 1867 te Driebergen, Wijk A no.59 tHaagje als tweede zoon van Kornelis & Neeltje van Rhenen. Het word eengroot gezin van 9 kinderen, waaronder ook een tweeling. Drie kinderenoverlijden al op zeer jonge leeftijd. In de lichting van 1887 wordt hijuitgeloot voor de dienstplicht. Op 7 maart 1893 wordt hij toch alsplaatsvervanger ingelijft bij het Regiment Veldartillerie tot 6 maart1900 (de dienstplicht duurde toen 7 jaar!). In april 1895 vertrekt hijnaar Harderwijk waar zich het Koloniaal Werfdepot bevindt. Van daaruitis hij naar Batavia gegaan in het Nederlandsch Oost-Indisch leger(KNIL). Het verdere verloop van zijn diensttijd moet ik nog uitzoeken.Wel is bekend dat hij daar syfilis heeft opgelopen. Op 5 juni 1909 wordthij opgenomen in het Gesticht voor Krankzinnigen in Zutphen, nadat hijal enkele malen met politie & justitie in aanraking was gekomen doordathij zich aan alcohol verging. Hij lijdt aan hersenverweking. In januari1910 heeft hij een licht insult gehad met als gevolg spraakstoornissenen linkszijdige verlamming. Daarna gaat hij steeds sneller achteruit.Uiteindelijk overlijdt hij op 14 november 1910.
