In juni 1943 via GAB (Gewestelijke ArbeidsBureaus; Bemiddelen van
arbeidskrachten en het uitvoeren van taken in het kader van de
arbeidsinzet in Duitsland en andere landen) naar Duitsland, na 2
maanden terug en ondergedoken.

Voor kapelaan Smulders koeriersdiensten verricht: bonkaarten
halen en wegbrengen.
Tijdens razzia gearresteerd, naar Vught/Amersfoort en begin
september 1944 via Hamburg naar Husum (Duitsland).

Neuengamme.
? 25 september 1944: met het eerste transport van
gevangenen vanuit Neuengamme naar Husum-Schwesing.

Concentratiekamp Husum-Schwesing was een buitenkamp van het
beruchte kamp Neuengamme en heeft slechts 3 maanden bestaan:
van 26 september 1944 tot en met 29 december 1944.
Het kamp werd op 26 september 1944 in gebruik genomen als
onderdeel van een veel grootschaligere fortificatie, bekend als de
Friesenwall.
Het kamp stond van september tot november 1944 onder leiding
van Hans Hermann Griem, een SS-Untersturmführer.
De gevangenen werden ingezet voor de bouw van 'De
Friesenwalles", verdedigingswerken tegen de gevreesde landingen
van de geallieerden op de Noordzeekust.
Dagelijks werd er tien tot twaalf uren gewerkt, daarbij werd er
mishandeld en honger geleden. Hoeveel mensen er in het kamp
exact zijn overleden is onbekend, 297 doden zijn geregistreerd.
Omdat Gijsbertus 5 weken in Husum heeft gezeten voor zijn
overlijden in november 1944 moet hij één van de eerste
gevangenen van dit kamp zijn geweest.
