Notes about Egbert van AMSTEL

Egbert komt als getuige voor in de geschriften van de Utrechtse bisschoppen Andries van Cuijk (1131), Hartbert van Bierum (1143) en Godfried van Rhenen (1172). Egbert zit in het ministriaal van de bisschop van Utrecht en het kapittel van Sint Maarten. Is in 1145 getuige bij een uitspraak van koning Koenraad III dat de graafschappen Oostergo en Westergo aan het sticht Utrecht toe komen. Heeft in 1171 een dispuut met het kapittel van Sint Marie (ook in Utrecht) over grondgebied. Na zijn dood staat hij veengrond af (gelegen nabij Bijlmerbroek) aan de bisschop van Utrecht.
Egbert liet als eerste heerser van Amstelland een versterkt herenhuis bouwen, wat als residentie voor de heren zou dienen. Dit onderkomen zou gelegen hebben in Ouderkerk aan de Amstel bij de huidige Beth Haim begraafplaats. Het werd in 1204 vernietigd door opstandige Kennemerse boeren.
