Het moet nog nader uitgezocht worden, maar ik vermoed dat van de kinderen die in Friesland werden geboren de naam gewoon Eppinga is gebleven maar dat de drie kinderen die in het Noord Hollandse Akersloot werden geboren, daar zijn ingeschreven met de naam Eppenga. Wellicht interpreteerde de ambtenaar het op z'n fries uitgesproken Eppinga als Eppenga en heeft hij dat toen opgeschreven.
