    Jacob (Jaap) Besters, gehuwd met Elisabeth Johanna en vader van 3 kinderen, woonde aan de Govert Flinckstraat 259 in Amsterdam. Kolenboer van beroep en lid van verzetsgroep Nederlandse Oranje Leger (N.O.L.). Onder een dekmantel van een gymnastiekvereniging die veel in het Amsterdamse Bos trainde worden plannen voor sabotage en oversteek naar Engeland bedacht. De groep bestond uit 42 man. Op 30-6-1941 worden door enkele leden van het N.O.L. opgepakt door de SD en er zou iemand doorslaan waardoor de hele groep wordt opgerold. Ook Jaap Besters wordt opgepakt op deze datum en overgebracht naar het huis van bewaring aan de Weteringschans. Na twee maanden overgeplaatst naar het huis van bewaring aan de Amstelveenseweg/Havenstraat. Hierna overgebracht naar P.D. Amersfoort, om op transport te gaan naar K.L. Buchenwald en daar op 2-4-1942 te arriveren. Geregistreerd onder nummer 2816. Vervolgens op 2-3-1944 doorgevoerd naar K.L. Natzweiler in de Elzas en daar op 4-3-1944 geregistreerd onder nummer 07757 als NN-Haeftling. Besters is een gevangene die valt onder het onder het zogenaamde Nacht- und Nebelerla?. Nacht und Nebel was een speciale strafklasse die de 'Chef des Oberkommando der Wehrmacht' veldmaarschalk Wilhelm Keitel in opdracht van Adolf Hitler tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog liet instellen om verzetsmensen spoorloos te laten verdwijnen. Als de geallieerde troepen in september 1944 de Elzas en het kamp Natzweiler naderen, wordt door de SS besloten het kamp te ontruimen. Besters gaat weer op transport en komt op 6 september 1944 aan in K.L. Dachau, geregistreerd onder nummer 103317. Overleden op 2-2-1945 in K.L. Dachau.
