Betreffende studie is o.a. gebruikt bij het bewijzen van de zogenaamde Piltdown fraude, door Woodward. In Piltdown werden in 1908, zogenaamd fossiele resten gevonden van een prehistorische mens.Woodward onderzocht deze vondst en verklaarde ze voor echt.Pas in 1953 bleek dat deze resten door, fraudeurs en/of grappenmakers waren samengesteld uit o.a een menselijke schedel en de onderkaak van een orangoetang.
Met de beschreven fluoride test (Bemmelen e.a) kon een deel van het bewijs worden geleverd dat de beenderen veel jonger moesten zijn dan Woodward beweerde. De betreffende studie is dus op een veel later tijdstip gebruikt dan dat hij op schrift was gezet (1900).>>
