Notes about Jacob Nieuwenhuis


Bij het tweede huwelijk van zijn zoon Ferdinand Jacobus Domela Nieuwenhuis, staat zijn naam er geschreven als Jacobus Domela Nieuwenhuis, ik denk dat dat verkeerd is, hij heet volgens mij alleen NIeuwenhuis, zonder Domela ervoor.

Studeerde in Tubingen letteren, godgeleerdheid en wis- en natuurkunde. In 1799 werd hij proponent, een jaar later predikant bij de Lutherse gemeente in Zutphen en vanaf 1803 predikant te Utrecht. In 1816 kreeg hij een leerstoel aan het Atheneum Illustre in Deventer, in 1822 hoogleraar in de bespiegelende wijsbegeerte aan de universiteit van Leiden. Vanaf 1833 was hij hier rector magnificus. Hij was tevens een zeer produktieve publicist. Hij hertrouwde op 2 mei 1811 met Anna Margaretha Elisabeth Clasina Smits van Pesch (1789-1867).
