Notes about Sjoerd Haantjes
Op 12 december 1919 koopt Sjoerd Haantjes het pand aan de van Swinderenstraat 52 en aan de Harichsterzijde van brievenbesteller Johannes Wagenmakers. Hij was machinist bij de coöperatieve zuivelfabriek te Harich. Door een reorganisatie moesten er enkele werknemers afvloeien. Haantjes begon voor zichzelf met een bescheiden fietsenwinkeltje van amper 25 m2. Op de stoep stond een benzinepomp op wielen. De pomp had twee flessen van elk 5 liter. Terwijl de ene fles leeg liep kon je de andere weer vullen. Later, in 1926, worden de steegwoningen aangekocht. De eerste woning wordt omgebouwd tot werkplaats. In één van de andere woningen woonde zijn ongetrouwde zuster Jantje Haantjes. Deze woning werd later ook verbouwd tot werkplaats enopslag. Inne Zeldenrust uit Harich werkte als knecht in de werkplaats. Naast rijwielen en naaimachines werden er radiotoestellen verkocht en geïnstalleerd.
