    Op 17 december 1944, drie maanden na de bevrijding van Geldrop, heeft er nog een bombardement plaatsgevonden op Hoog Geldrop.
    Op 16 december 1944 begon het Duitse leger het Ardennenoffensief met de bedoeling door te stoten naar Antwerpen om de aanvoer van goederen voor de geallieerde legers af te snijden.
    Ter ondersteuning van de grondtroepen was ook de Duitse luchtmacht zeer actief.
    Op zondagmiddag 17 december kwam een groot aantal vliegtuigen overgevlogen. Het vliegtuiggeronk was zo hevig dat het vele mensen de straat op lokte om te kijken wat er aan de hand was. Even vóór de kruising Hoog Geldrop en de Genoenhuizerweg kwam toen een Duitse bom neer met verschrikkelijke gevolgen voor enkele gezinnen. Er vielen drie doden en één zwaar gewonde te betreuren.
    Van het gezin Petrus van de Ven - Toemen werd het zoontje Martinus (geboren op 25-07-1934) dodelijk getroffen en liep het oudste dochtertje Anna Maria (geboren op 19-09-1931) zwaar hersenletsel op. Anna Maria is na jarenlange behandelingen hersteld.
    Cornelis Toemen (geboren op 16-03-1881) hun grootvader, werd dodelijk getroffen.
    Het derde slachtoffer was Petrus Johannes van der Heijden (geboren 06-05-1921) die zwaar gewond was en daags daarna aan zijn verwondigen was overleden.
