De Ramp in de Dennen (11-11-1940)
Remmert Bremer en Etje Dros woonden als pasgetrouwd stel in het kleine oude huisje op het Ruige Landje aan de Rozendijk. Remmert was een jutter van Den Hoorn. Op een dag kwam hij terug van het strand, zij liep hem tegemoet, hij zette zijn fiets tegen het schuurtje en gooide de zak die hij achterop had op de grond. Op dat moment ontplofte de granaat die daar in zat- niet toen ze op het strand er mee gooiden of onderweg over hobbelige zandpaden.
Ze waren allebei dood. Op hun grafsteen op het Hoornder kerkhof staat: 'Hier rusten onze lieve kinderen Remmert Bremer en Etje Dros, beide 27 jaar oud. Overleden bij de ramp in de Dennen op 11 november 1940'.
Voor de familie was dit een ramp, maar eigenlijk was het een stom ongeluk.
André Bakker zijn ouders zeiden dat de klap van Remmert Bremer tot in Den Hoorn was te horen.
Dick Lemstra heeft Remmert zien fietsen met jute zak achterop. Hij ging heen, Remmert kwam terug over het fietspad naar Westerslag. Later hoorde hij de klap, maar dat hoorde je wel meer in die tijd. Bom ging pas af toen R de zak op de grond gooide.
Eerste bom? Dat had je met die Hoornders, D had er ook wel eens een bezig gezien met een mijn. Ze gaven nergens om.
Dik Smit: Joost Ran de slager kwam net na het begin van de oorlog bij Kees Smit: het is daar niet goed- ik durf niet te kijken. Kees ging op de fiets, jonge Dik lopend door het land, ze waren er gelijk, ± 13 jaar.
De vrouw lag op het erf. Remmert had de fiets tegen de schuur gezet, bom (op de grond gegooid) plofte meteen. Bremer was overal verspreid, vrouw is nog in het Gesticht geweest, maar dat hielp niet meer.
Ze waren pas getrouwd. Hij kwam van het strand en zij liep hem tegemoet.
Jan Roeper en Douwie Blom hebben van 1952 tot 1959 bijna 7 jaar op het Ruige Landje gewoond. De poenen zaten nog in de deur toen wij er kwamen- van de ontplofte granaat van Remmert Bremer.
Bij Bremer van Isola Bella waren ze panisch voor 'Rommel van Strand'. Hans hield er ook erg van, dat zat in de familie. De Ramp in de Dennen (11-11-1940)
