Cornelius "Case" Maas, 86, of Effort, died Sunday, Nov. 14, at home. He was the loving husband of Emma (Drenth) Maas. They had been married 58 years.
Born in Paterson, N.J., on July 12, 1918, he was the son of the late Cornelius and Agnes (Nawyn) Maas.
He was employed as a union carpenter in Paterson, N.J., for 46 years. He was a member of Pleasant Valley Assembly of God Church, Brodheadsville.

A veteran World War II, he served in the U.S. Army receiving a Bronze Star and five Battle Stars.

In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by four children, Cornelius "Neil" Maas [see next note] and his wife, Nancy, of Jefferson Township, N.J., the Rev. John Peter Maas and his wife, Candice, of Melbourne, Fla., Carol Lynne Van Dyke and her husband, Robert, of Lafayette, N.J., and Burt Douglas Maas and his wife, Laurie, of Effort; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; four sisters, Betty Galenkamp, Jeanette Von Itter, Elizabeth Avagardo, and Elsie Koepper; and three brothers, the Rev. Joe Maas, Jack Maas and Peter Maas.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 18, at Donald N. Gower Funeral Home, Route 209, Gilbert. Pastor Charles Scrimale and Pastor John Maas will officiate. Interment will follow in Buena Vista Cemetery, Brodheadsville.

A viewing will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 17, at the funeral home.

Cornelius "Neil" Walter Maas IV, 66, of Burgaw, NC and formerly of Oak Ridge, NJ passed from his earthly life on Saturday, June 29, 2013 at Pender Memorial Hospital in Burgaw.

He was born February 24, 1947 in Paterson, NJ, the son of Emma Drenth Maas and the late Cornelius Walter Maas III.

In Addition to his mother, Neil is survived by his wife of 45 years, Nancy Jane Smith Maas; daughter, Jennifer Stevens; son, David C. Maas; grandson, Zachary Stevens; sister, Carol VanDyke (Robert); brothers, John Maas (Candy) and Burt Maas (Laurie); and many nieces and nephews.

Neil served his country honorably in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. He was retired from Jefferson Township Police Department after serving his community for over 25 years. Being an avid motorcycle rider, Neil was a member of the Blue Knights, Chapter IX in Sparta, NJ. In 2012 Neil and Nancy moved to Burgaw, NC where they attended and became a part of the Forest Hills Baptist Church family. Neil was a man of great faith in Jesus Christ, a man of love for his family, and a man of loyalty to his friends, community and country. Amongst the legacies Neil leaves behind are the importance of God, Family and Country; and we must not forget his contribution to the betterment of this world in which we live.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at Forest Hills Baptist Church with The Rev. Tim Cook and the Rev. John Maas officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
