3 October 1869. Bezoek afgelegd bij Jacob Dijksen, laatstleden donderdag getrouwd. Mijne toespraak, waarbij ik het gevoel van leedwezen over al het gebeurde (men verzekert dat het kind, waarvan zijne minnares van verleden jaar onlangs bevallen is, zijn zoon is) bij hem poogde te verwekken, ofschoon zoo humaan mogelijk, voldeed hem zoo weinig, dat hij mij verliet en mij alleen liet zitten met het woord: ”Ik wil van dat gezanik niet meer hooren”. Ik ging heen met den wensch dat mijn woord heiligend nadenken moge wekken.

4 October 1869. Des namiddags nog eenig huisbezoek. Bij Arie Dijksen regt goed gesproken, daarna mijne ontmoeting bij zijn zoon Jakob verhaald. De vrouw gaf daarover hare afkeuring te kennen maar niet over het gedrag haars zoons. Ik had mij daarmede niet moeten bemoeijen, enz.
