Notes about Sijbrand Makelaar

Hij bezat een hofstede aan de Middenstraat in Den Helder en een slagerij aan de Vismarkt in Den Helder.
De familie Makelaar is tot het einde van de 17e eeuw te volgen in Amsterdam. De grootvader van Sijbrand, Dirk Allemondusz Makelaar, werd gedoopt in Amsterdam op 16 mrt 1785 en huwde aldaar op 7 feb 1813. In 1822 vinden we hem als timmerman in Vreeswijk, waar zijn zoon Dirk (vader van Sijbrand) werd geboren. Later vestigde de timmerman zich in Den Helder.

De moeder van Sijbrand, Dirkje Slot werd in 1824 op Texel geboren. Haar grootvader, de zeeman Luit Slot, werd gedoopt in Oosterend op 20 aug 1769 als zoon van Siets Claasz Slot, welke een jaar later in het rasphuis in Amsterdam zat opgesloten. Diens vrouw, Fokje Lijckles, geboren in Gorredijk, werd twee jaar later er van verdacht de moeder en moordenares te zijn van het pasgeboren jongetje dat werd gevonden in de waterput van Frederik Slot. Na een onderzoek door de vroedvrouwen werd Fokje overgebracht naar Alkmaar en daar opgesloten in het tuchthuis. Daar zij met grote stelligheid de beschuldigingen bleef ontkennen, werd zij in 1773 bij gebrek aan steekhoudende bewijzen vrijgelaten.

De echtgenote van Luit Slot, Dirkje Sijbrands Zuidewind, was een telg uit een van oorsprong doopsgezind geslacht uit De Waal op Texel. Haar vader Sijbrand Jacobsz (geb ca. 1745) was een achterneef van de destijds rijkste man van Texel, de grootschipper Harman Pietersz Zuidewind, die ook de Portugese taal machtig was.
