Notes about Arie Boendermaker

Arie begint op 2 mrt 1874 op de Rijkswerf als leerling vuurwerkmaker. Hij verdient dan vier stuivers per dag. Na ruim zes jaar wordt hij op 19 juli 1880 bevorderd tot ernstvuurwerkmaker 3e klasse en verdient nu een gulden en zes stuivers per dag. Op 1 sep 1889 wordt hij bevorderd tot commandeur ernstvuurwerkmaker met een loon van 790 gulden per jaar. Op 1 aug 1908 wordt hij baas en is zijn loon gestegen naar 1200 gulden per jaar. Op 1 juli 1923 wordt hij eervol ontslagen, omdat hij de 55-jarige leeftijd al ruim gepasseerd is.
Bij de keuring voor militaire dienst wordt hij bij loting aangewezen om de dienstplicht te vervullen. Hij is van lichting 1881 en op 3 mei 1881 bij de landmacht ingedeeld. Op 30 april 1882 gaat hij met onbepaald verlof. Als hij een paar maanden getrouwd is moet hij op 19 aug 1884 weer voor een maand op herhaling.

Arie en Jaan wonen in het laatste blok van de Janzenstraat op nummer 58. Zoon Freek woont later met echtgenote Bets in het middelste blok van dezelfde straat en naast hen woont de oudste zus van Sien Wegman (zie 5 op blz. 4), Mattje, met echtgenoot Arie Abbenes.
Zij krijgen zes zoons en een dochter. De in 1900 geboren jongste zoon Arie overlijdt op zestienjarige leeftijd aan nekkramp (meningitis - hersenvliesontsteking).
Arie en Jaan laten hun jongste zoon niet bij de geboorte dopen, waardoor vader Arie herhaalde malen door de kerkenraad wordt gesommeerd zoon Arie te laten dopen en uiteindelijk een 'vermaning tot de eerste trap' krijgt: in de kerk wordt hij publiekelijk vermaand, evenwel zonder dat zijn naam genoemd wordt, en hij wordt uitgesloten van deelname aan het Avondmaal. De (kerk)gemeente wordt gevraagd te bidden om de dwalende weer op het rechte pad te krijgen. Arie blijft bij zijn standpunt dat de kinderdoop eigenlijk tegen Gods woord is en vraagt in 1907 royement aan. Dit wordt hem pas in 1912 verleend onder het uitspreken van de hoop dat 'den Weledele Heer A. Boendermaker toch nog het licht zal mogen zien en door een schuldbelijdenis weer tot de kerk verenigd mag worden'.

Alle kinderen van Arie en Jaan hadden thuis een harmonium ofwel kamerorgel, behalve Freek die een piano had. Geen van hen had muziekles gehad maar ze konden wel allemaal (psalmen) spelen. Oudste zoon Simon wekte zijn gezin op zondagmorgen altijd met psalmen die hij op zijn harmonium ten gehore bracht.
