Vanaf "Duinroos", Gerritslanderdijkje 5, kwam hij met zijn gezin op "Vredelust" wonen.
Hij kocht in 1928 voor f 17.000,- de boerderij met 35 ha land. Hij kreeg voor dit bedrag een hypothecaire schuld aan Martje Tijs Bakker (1850-1933), de weduwe van Jan Jansz Witte. Deze lening werd in 1934 publiekelijk verkocht, samen met een lening van f 4950,- ten laste van de kapper Jacob W. van den Aakster.
Gerrit Pietersz Witte (1863-1948), wonende Molenstraat 67, kocht beide leningen van nominaal en rentedragende van f 21.950,- voor het totale bedrag van f. 15.950,-.
Jan Zoetelief had een stal met tbc-vrij rundvee en in 1933 op 3 ha weiland 85 schapen.
De weduwe Zoetelief werd in 1936 eigenares met haar kinderen en zij zetten het bedrijf voort. In 1941 waren de gebroeders Zoetelief eigenaar van 200 schapen. In 1943 gebruikten zij 43 ha land. In de prachtige tuin met veel oude bomen hadden zij de lekkertse peren.
