Claas Maartensz Cleun in De Koog (geboren in 1643) was in 1701 stuurman op de "juffr. Isabella Clara", waarvan de schipper was Lambert Claasz Pronck van Vlieland.
Hij had een vrij groot nageslacht door zijn zoons Jacob (geboren voor 1676), Reijer (geboren in 1682) en Gerrit (geboren in 1693); alle drie uit verschillende huwelijken. Een deel van de familie verhuisde naar Oudeschild als loodsen. Een andere tak, ook in De Koog, stamt af van Maarten Joosten Kleun (geboren in 1699), zoon van Joost Dirksz en Antje Jans Groen.
De voornaam Maarten en de woonplaats doen verwantschap met de eerste familie vermoeden.
Beide families waren rk. De naam stierf in 1849 uit.
