Een gereformeerde familie Troost begint met Jan Arentsz Troost alias Tubbetou, die in 1701 in Den Burg huwde met Cornelisje Jans en in 1707 met Aaltje Cornelis. Hun kleinzoon Hendrik Pietersz Troost (geb. 1749) was loods en ging naar Oudeschild. Diens zoons - uit twee huwelijken - Pieter (geb. 1775), Gerrit (geb. 1783), Albert (geb. 17841, Teunis (geb. 1785) en Jan (geb. 1787) gingen naar Den Hoorn; allen waren zeelieden, vnl. loodsen. Het geslacht bleef tot in de 20e eeuw op Texel voortleven, een deel trok naar Den Helder.
