Hij was organist van de St. Pancras of Hooglandse Kerk in Leiden; besturend lid van het dichtoefend genoodschap 'Kunst wordt door arbeid verkregen'.
In het eerste deel van de werken van dat genootschap komen enige niet onverdienstelijke dichtstukken van hem voor, die ook gevonden worden in zijn Mengelpoëzy, Leiden 1788; er bestaat nog van hem een bundel Schimp- en Spotdichten en eveneens een met Feestzangen, waarin stukken gedagtekend 1 mei 1781.
