Notes about Klaas van Wilgen

Om de een of andere reden heeft hij zijn naam veranderd in Francis Nicholas De Wilgen.
The family in Holland knew of his change of name because I have letters from his family written to him and our family in Maitland, NSW. This was how I knew who his brother & sister and other members were.
I wonder how we could research to find out the reason for the change of name. I did look at shipping records from his town to America but not knowing when he left. His Obituary stated he had emigrated to America, where he lived for about 7 years. About 43 years ago he came to New South Wales (ca. 1859). For a time he lived in Newcastle, then he came to Maitland and resided here ever since. He died 17 August 1902 aged 72yrs. The obituary stated he was 69yrs but we know that is incorrect. He married 24 June 1862 in West Maitland to Janet McDuff.
