De broer van de opa van Fia Witte was missionaris en heeft in Nyeri, een dorp op ca. 150 km van Nairobi een Seminarie opgericht in 1924. Hij was toen 25 jaar jong.
Een uniek water filter systeem dat door Pater Witte was uitgedacht en gebouwd werd nog steeds gebruikt (2005) voor het water dat van de berg oplaag komt. Stenen reservoirs en eindeloze watergangen en keerringen zorgen voor helder en goed drinkwater.
Naar hem is het pater Witteplein in Den Burg vernoemd.

Plein in Den Burg dat eigenlijk een hofje is en dat nabij de R.K.-kerk ligt. Het plein begint bij de linkervoorzijde van de kerk en gaat langs de kerk linksom naar het zuiden naar de Keesomlaan en achter de kerk naar de Hollewal. Genoemd naar Michael Joseph Witte, geboren op Texel op 31 januari 1895 en overleden op 24 maart 1961 te Halfweg. Witte werd geprofest in de Congregatie van de Heilige Geeest op 23 september 1917 te Gemert en tot priester gewijd op 28 augustus 1921 te Leuven. Van 1922 tot 1961 was hij werkzaam als missionaris in (Brits) Oost-Afrika. Pater Witte had zijn eigen opvattingen over de missie, was eigenwijs, deed wat hem goed leek en was zeer succesvol. Het Britse bewind benoemde hem in 1937 tot Officer of the British Empire, een hoge onderscheiding. Witte ligt begraven op het kloosterkerkhof van de Paters van de Heilige Geest in Gemert.
