Notes about Joannes Jodocus Driessens

Mede oprichter Weerter Scheepsbouw Maatschappij. In 1887 startte Jozef Driessens samen met zijn zoon Frans met het vervaardigen van ijzeren schepen aan de Zuid-Willemsvaart. Het werk trok aan en in 1907 werd de NV Weerter Scheepsbouwmaatschappij opgericht.


Tot aan het 40-jarig jubileum in 1947 liepen er 145 schepen voor binnen- en buitenland van stapel. Ook na de Tweede Wereldoorlog heeft het bedrijf veel nieuwbouw bedreven.


Na 1980 kwam het accent op scheepsreparatie te liggen. De scheepswerf moest uiteindelijk haar poorten sluiten in 1995.
