    Bij de doopgetuigen van de kinderen van Jacobus staan voor de vaderszijde ook doopgetuigen uit de familie Vermeulen: Joannes Vermeulen bij de doop van het eerste kind; Godefridus Pex, gehuwd met Elisabeth Vermeulen; Elisabeth Vermeulen zelf. Bij de eerste doop is vaak een (stief)grootouder van de dopeling aanwezig. Als Joannes de stiefvader is van Jacobus dan is Cornelia Coenen (dochter van Conrardus?) misschien wel de moeder van Jacobus. Helaas geen bewijs kunnen vinden van deze veronderstelling. In Swalmen is ook een andere Jacobus gedoopt, een zoon van Arnoldus Smets. Maar dit lijkt een andere persoon te zijn. Arnoldus is misschien wel een broer van de vader van Jacobus.
