Obituary
GRUVER - Funeral services for John Wiersma, 92, of Estherville will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, 2015 at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in rural Gruver with Pastor Randy James officiating. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday at Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel in Estherville. Interment will be at High Lake Cemetery in Wallingford.
He died Sunday, Jan. 25, 2015 at the Medford Senior Care in Medford, Minn.
John Wiersma, the son of Cornelis and Uilkje (Vanderby) Wiersma, was born July 13, 1922 in Oudwoude, The Netherlands.
He received his education in the Netherlands.
On Dec. 30, 1952 he was united in marriage to Ruth Mykes in Emmetsburg. After their marriage, the couple farmed and lived in Ringsted area and later in Henning, Minn. In 1988, the couple moved to Estherville.
For hobbies, John enjoyed woodworking and spending time with his grandchildren. Ruth died on June 28, 1994.
He was a member of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church south of Gruver.
Left to cherish John's memory are his son, Gary Wiersma, and his wife, Judy, of Medford; three grandchildren, Shelby, Dalton and Dakota Wiersma and one brother, Ted.
He has been preceded in death by his parents, wife, and brothers and sisters.
