Notes about Alexander Jonkheer

Toen hij als deserteur van het Franse leger gezocht werd, verschool hij zich in een kelder te Borssele. Op zekere dag waagde hij het om wat sprokkelhout te gaan halen op een kruiwagen. Hij werd aangehouden door gendarmes, die hem vroegen of hij ook deserteurs had gezien. Hij gaf ontkennend antwoord en spoedig zat hij weer veilig in de kelder. Op latere leeftijd liep hij op krukken, die lang bewaard zijn gebleven op de zolder van de Nederlands Hervormde kerk van Borssele.
Misschien was hij niet groot van gestalte, want hij werd Sandertje genoemd.
