Notes about Elisabethus van Oorschot

De 2de wereldoorlog en de Studebaker met de gasgenerator.

In WO II werd door het autobedrijf "van Gorp" in Rotterdam achter de cabine van de Studebaker een gasgenerator gemonteerd. De factuur van de werkzaamheden is nog in het archeif aanwezig.

Op "Dolle Dinsdag" 5 september 1944 werd de Studebaker gevoreder door de Duitse Wehrmacht. De motor wilde echter niet lopen want Gerrit Elzerman (de opvolger van Piet Roos) had de roto uit de stroomverdeler gehaald. Tijdens het aanslepen achter een andere (leger)auto gaf de motor af en toe enorme knallen.
De Duitsers (zo vertelde Hans Berkman) wilde Piet Berkman die aan het werk was op de opslag aan de Gebroken Meeldijk arresteren om te horen wat hij geflikt had met de Studebaker. Ondanks dat de Duitsers schoten kon op aanwijzing van Izak (Elisabethus) van Oorschot - één van de kolenknechts - Piet Berkamn over de spoorrails ontsnappen richting het stationsgebouw.
Hij heeft zich de rest van de dag verborgen bij Adrianus (Janus) Huijgen tuinder aan de Gebroken Meeldijk 37 te Barendrecht.
Zijn zoon Gerrit kwam moeder Zegie waarschuwen waar Piet Berkman zich verborgen had en dat alles in ore was.
Piet Berkman en Janus Huijgen zijn hun keven ang bevriend geweest. Beiden behoorden zeer nadrukkelijk tot de Gereofrmeerde "Mannenbroeders".
