Véritable auxiliaire du curé et du vicaire, il participait à toutes les
cérémonies du culte, services quotidiens, messes dominicales, baptêmes, mariages, sépultures, fêtes et processions. Assisté du bedeau et des enfants de choeur placés sous son autorité, le clerc sonnait les cloches et remontait l'horloge, participait au nettoyage et à la décoration de l'église. Le clerc était aussi chargé d'entretenir le parterre et le jardin du curé qui lui donnait pour celà une gratification annuelle . la dîme sur les grains ou les agneaux pour " M. Le Curé ", ainsi que la dresse annuelle des comptes des marguillers ( personne chargée des intérêts matériels de la communauté religieuse du village ) Il effectuait
