Notes about Jan de WITT

WITT (Jan de) (2), geb. te Dordrecht 1567, gest. 15 Sept. 1625; zesde zoon van Willem (1) de Witt en Maria van Wezel. Hij had eenig aandeel aan de regeering te Dordrecht: lid van het college van de achten van 1604-1611; lid van de veertiger sedert 1611; schepen in 1611 en daarna nog eenige malen; gecommitteerde ten beleide in 1617, 1619 en 1625. Verder was hij tresorier van 1611-1619 en ontvanger-generaal van den tol van Geervliet van 1613-1625. Hij huwde 18 Febr. 1590 Jacomina van Baresteyn, bij wie hij verscheidene kinderen had, van wie wij alleen noemen: Johan (3) (volgend artikel); Thomas (geb. 1 Mei 1605), die als kapitein van een compagnie burgers van het 10e vendel te Dordrecht voorkomt en huwde met Geertruyd de Koning; Adriaan (geb. 15 Febr. 1607), die lid en burgemeester van het college van de achten in 1659, 1660 en lid hiervan van 1664-1672 was en niet huwde.
