Notes about Cornelis Pietersz. de Kanter

Gezworen Poortambacht 1746-1761, boek-houder Armenkinderhuis 1748-1772, heemraad van Schouwen
1758-1772. Hij was een ervaren kaartenmaker. In 1748 gaf hij een kaart van Schouwen en Duiveland
't licht, versierd met de wapens der dorpen en heerlijkheden. In 1745 kreeg hij een gift van
Thesaurieren van Zierikzee van £25 voor het maken eener kaart van de stad en het eiland en in
1752 kreeg hij van het zelfde college een zilveren, met het stadswapen versierde, tabaksdoos voor
de vrijwillig door hem bewezen diensten bij de werken aan het Sas der stad. In 1773 werd hij door
het Zeeuwsch Genootschap bekroond over zijn verhandeling over de vallen in de dijken. Hij was
ouderling der Herv. Gemeente. Op 30 mei 1750 deed hij door den notaris Reinout Maan den
opperdijkgraaf van Schouwen Mr. Adriaan de Huybert van Westenschouwen aanzeggen, dat deze hem in
zijn functie van landmeester van Schouwen op 29 mei tevoren beledigd had en beschuldigd van
nalatigheid in zijn ambt en hem voor meineedig verklaarde. De heer de Huybert ontkende zulks en
deelde mee, dat hij slechts gezegd had, enz.
