IDENTITY: The confusion in Anselme appears to be caused by a donation by "Simon iste comes Ebroicensis et Mahaudis uxor eius" which is presumeably a mistake for Amicia. The necrology of Haute-Bruyère lists "Simon...et de sa femme la contesse Amicie". Cawley "Medieval Lands" and Schwennicke Band3 part 4 tafel 642 are in agreement. We make Simon II the elder brother of Amaury and Simon III his son. Simon IV was the first to be Earl of Leicester. Simon V commanded the Albigensian crusade. Simon VI died at the battle of Evesham. Anselme is wrong to give his Simon II two wives.
