NOTE:Het tweede huwelijk van de Prins van Oranje is met Anna van Saksen, dochter van de keurvorst Maurits van Saksen. Zij is streng Luthers opgevoed. Van liefde is geen sprake, maar zij verleent de Prins de steun van Saksen, Hessen en de Paltz, en daar is het Willem van Nassau dan ook om te doen. Ondanks de tegenstellingen in geloofsovertuiging tussen de twee, en vooral de kritieken daarover van haar familie, vindt het huwelijk toch doorgang op 25 augustus 1561. Het huwelijk brengt weinig anders dan verdriet. Zij schenkt hem wel vier kinderen; Anna, Maurits (deze sterft in zijn geboortejaar), een tweede Maurits en Emilie. Anna stond bekend om haar woede-uitbarstingen en wispelturig gedrag en depressieve buien. Ze misdraagt zich in het openbaar zoals bij de doop van Maurits. Ze drinkt teveel en geeft veel te veel geld uit.
Uiteindelijk scheiden ze en wordt ze in 1570 naar Keulen gestuurd en Anna kreeg een affaire met haar Vlaamse adviseur, advocaat Jan Rubens. Hij was de vader van Peter Paul Rubens (1577-1640), de beroemde Vlaamse schilder. Anna werd in 1571 zwanger van hem en een bastaard kind werd geboren: Christine van Dietz. Normaal gesproken werd de doodstraf uitgesproken in die tijd maar waarschijnlijk door toedoen van Maria Pijpelinx, de vrouw van Jan Rubens en de "ontoerekeningvatbaarheid" van Anna werd Jan Rubens en zijn familie in 1568 verbannen, waarschijnlijk een geloofs-kwestie, naar Siegen, Westphalen (Duitsland), waar Peter Paul Rubens wordt geboren.
Er wordt beschreven dat Anna van Saxen volkomen krankzinnig is geworden, spuugde en het schuim op haar mond had. Anna van Oranje (32 jaar) is op 18 december 1577 in Dresden aan uitputting overleden en ligt begraven in Meissen.
