Zover we weten, was Harrie bierbrouwer, bottelde het bier in flessen, aan het Matenaspad, runde daarna een cafe op de Noordendijk, Kreeg daar 7 kinderen.
Het verliep met het huwelijk niet zo best, zijn vrouw liep weg en hij bleef met de kinderen zitten.
Verhuisde naar de Heer Heymansuisstraat en verzorgde daar zijn kinderen, was zonder werk, maar kreeg ook geen uitkering, hij moest de kinderen maar naar een tehuis doen, zo werd er gezegd.
Ik zorg zelf wel voor mijn kinderen daar heb ik jullie niet voor nodig, zo zei hij, dit viel natuurlijk niet mee met kinderen tussen de 11 en 1 jaar.
Hij deed dus klusjes voor de buren, maakte zelf de kleding, maakte de schoenen, kortom wat zijn ogen zagen konden zijn handen maken.
